August 26, 2022 — Health care professionals are one of the greatest assets of Canada’s health care systems. Evidence-based planning for and distribution of health care professionals — now and in the future — are vital parts of making sure Canadians can access health care services when and where they need them.

Personal support workers (PSWs)
Personal support workers (PSWs) are an important part of the health workforce, caring for some of Canada’s most vulnerable populations. However, the lack of data on this group of workers hinders the ability of decision-makers both to understand their role in health care and to undertake evidence-informed workforce planning. CIHI has been working on advancing comparable pan-Canadian PSW data, including developing data standards and piloting a data submission project to conduct data quality and comparability assessments.
